The Pacquiao Era
Unequivocally and no one would declare a no vote that Manny Pacquiao is the masterpiece of boxing in the world today. Manny stunned the whole world Saturday, 6 December at MGM Grand Arena with a one sided victory when he knocked out the Golden Boy of boxing Oscar de la Hoya in the eight round with a vicious barrage of punches and sent the one time legend, a 1992 Olympic gold medalist, a professional 6 weight division champion and a future hall of famer into retirement.

Manny Pacquiao
The first two rounds were hard to predict but was clear in the third round that the Golden Boy needs a miracle to beat the quick hands of Pacquiao. Manny’s hands were so lightning quick that prominently displayed hooks, jabs and upper cut punches that nearly closed Oscar’s left eye with hard straight hits. De la Hoya was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Manny was a 2-1 underdog in this fight but proved that he is the best in the world today stopping Oscar in the 8th round when his trainer, Nacho Bernstein saw it coming and asked mercifully refferee Tony Weeks to stop the fight. Fighting a man who had an illustrious career who fought at super welterweight and middle weight exclusively on many occasions while Manny only fought 1 time at lightweight and most of his fights were at super bantamweight class, came at a 2-1 underdog.
Manny Pacquiao was as phenomenal as ever and never threatened in the all of the rounds. His coach, Freddie Roach prepared him very well for this fight and stayed away from the Oscar’s left hooks. Manny Pacquiao admittedly as saying that Oscar de la Hoya was and is still his idol but this is business and he came here to do his thing. A real respect for the Mexican Golden Boy. There were speculations on a Pacquiao - Mayweather fight but this story we’ll take up on another occasion.
To Manny Pacquiao and to the millions of his supporters especially the Filipino’s it can now be declared that Manny is the best pound for pond fighter at present. Its the Pacquiao Era and we Pinoys are very proud of.
Mabuhay Po Kayong Lahat.
